![]() Fuzz Button Technology Fuzz Buttons are utilized as individual electrical connections between two mating surfaces or leads. Standard Fuzz Buttons are manufactured from a single strand of .002" gold plated Beryllium copper wire, die compressed into a cylindrical shape. The buttons offer the excellent electrical and spring characteristics inherent to Beryllium copper, and can be used either individually or in arrays. Standard Fuzz Buttons are rated to approx. (110 deg C). If a higher temperature is required, other materials such as gold plated tungsten (130 deg C)or gold plated nickel chromium (150 deg C) wire may be substituted. The electrical advantage of Fuzz Buttons over spring probes is well documented within the interconnect industry. Reduced signal path lengths, result in lower inductance and reduced electrical distortion. In addition, the random wire orientation of each Fuzz Button plays a role in the cancellation of electronic fields created by electrical conduction. Fuzz Buttons also have the unique inherent capability of easing the high tolerance stack ups caused by co-planarity issues. This is because the amount of deflection that is required to attain the optimum electrical performance can range between 15% and 30% of the original Fuzz Button height. ![]() In test sockets offered today, Fuzz Buttons are typically used in combination with Hardhat contact pins. These pins, sitting on top of the Fuzz Buttons, have unique contact tip configurations to mate to the test device, while the Fuzz Buttons contact the printed circuit board. |
